Craftin Desert Divas Marbling Technique with Alcohol Inks and a Gelli Plate

DT Susan here on the CDD blog. I am here for another tutorial for marbling with alcohol inks. This time using a Gelli Plate because I am not that good with a blender! Yes I shot this card hanging over the edge of my pool because my Jaws dude is riding a big wave lol!!!

For this project I used my 5x7 Gelli Plate and three shades of alcohol ink: turquoise, stream and bottle and the silver and gold mixatives. I also used a Catalyst Wedge by Princeton to move the inks around the plate and a straw. I used Yupo paper. You can also use Glossy Paper but you cannot use just plain paper of any kind as the inks will bleed right through.

So first I set up my Gelli Plate and added some ink!

Then I moved it around with my Catalyst Wedge or you could use a credit card.

Then I just pressed a piece of Yupo onto the Gelli Plate and gently patted it to get the first print. You can go back and reprint pieces that have dried.

This is the first print that I did and I added to it later on in the process once it was dry.

Bathing Suit: BV17 and B32
Crab: R12, R14 and R17

Craftin Desert Divas: Galaxy Backgrounds with Alcohol Inks

Craftin Desert Divas' DT member Susan here with a tutorial on making galaxy backgrounds on dark paper using alcohol inks and Jennifer McGuire's marbling technique. I have a You Tube video below showing the process and making the card. This is my very first video so please excuse any problems. What I learned it that the colored alcohol inks do not show up very well on the black card stock. I was hoping that a colored hue would be added to the paper but it really didn't. So save those colored inks for white paper!!!

Here is the card:

First, I filled a glass baking dish with 1.5" of water and then added the inks and the mixatives. I stirred them around with a straw. I used Bazzill Black Licorice 110 lb cardstock.

Then, I realized that the only inks that show up on black are the mixatives. The other important point is that you need to grab the clumps of ink when you dip your paper. The second photo shows the background I actually used. I had finally figured out to grab those clumps of ink and add extra mixatives. In this case  I used both silver and gold.

This process generated several backgrounds and I could have kept going to make more!!! The backs of the card fronts look just as good. I can see lots of possibilities using this technique!

Craftin Desert Divas' Mood Board Post - Foggy in Gnome Ville

I used the Craftin Desert Divas' Mood Board for February. Isn't it beautiful!!????

Here is my card. It is foggy in Gnomeville and Mr. Gnome is trying to get home in this pea soup fog in sunrise. I got my color inspiration for the scene from the Mood Board. The sentiment is from Up, Up and Away! Then I added a few drop of Nuvo Jewel Drops in Grey Mist.

Copics Used:
Gnome House: W0, W1, W3, W5 and the reds are R12, R14, R17 and R29 with dots and plaid from my gel pen. For the lights in the windows I used YR21.
The Bottom Fog: BG70, BG90, B0000 and lots of white gel pen
Sky: R000, R00, B000, B00
Clouds C0, C1, C3
Gnome: R12, R14, R17, R29 for the hat. B93 and B95 for his coat. Beard is W00 and W1. And his face is E0000, E01, E00 and RV10. And I added a bit of Y17 around where his lantern would be because it would have to be on in such bad fog!

Craftin Desert Divas's Pot of Gold Couple in Love

For today's card I used the Craftin Desert Divas' Pot of Gold stamp set from the new February release. As an Irish American, I love the sayings and trolls in this set. However, you can do much more than that with this set. Change the colors and you have a Valentine's Day card or just a love note! I did keep to traditional colors as I am sending this to a family member! For the background I dry embossed the Hearts Galore stencil using Neenah Solar White 80 lb. paper.

Craftin Desert Divas' Release Week Day 1

Hello Divas;
DT Susan here from I am here on the Craftin Desert Divas' blog for the first day of the February release. This release is adorable and features a few sets I am obsessed with - particularly Gnomie! I had a book as a child all about a gnome that looked the main character in this set and I love the house.

Our new die set of the stitched alphabet and numbers is so cute and so very useful. I have used it four times already. I even made a stencil from the alphabet before I cut it apart. Watch for that card later.

Today I am featuring the flying fairy gnome and the alphabet set. Here is my card:

I have die cut the colored image with the dies and popped them up on craft foam.
Copics Used:
Face: E0000, E00, E01, E70, RV10
Hair: E30, E33, E35
Dress: Rv63, Rv65 and RV69 with white gel pen.
Dragonfly and shirt: BG70, BG72 and 75. I added a touch of colored pencil for detail work.

First, I stamped the image and then colored it in. I then lined up the dies using my MISTI as the bottom of the MISTI is magnetic. I did this to keep the letters straight.
Next, I added a piece of painter's tape over the word HUGS to keep the dies altogether in a straight line.

Then, I die cut the letters from my colored image. This will cause some letters to have coloring on them. Then, I die cut the word from fun foam and popped the panel flat onto a card base. I then used a liquid adhesive to glue each piece of fun foam down.

Then, I glued the die cut pieces onto the image and you can see that the colored pieces line up perfectly with the die cuts. This gives the card a bit of dimension. I am going to try this technique next with a floral stamp or a series of our mushrooms from different sets. I think that might be adorable. As you can see, this technique has endless possibilities.

Have fun looking at the new release each day! I cannot wait to see what you make. Don't forget to post your projects in the Craftin Desert Divas' Facebook Gallery!

Craftin Desert Divas February Mood Board Week 1

I am here with my February Mood Board post for the first week. Our mood board is full of beautiful pinks and whites.
I chose to use the hearts as my inspiration. I created this card using a stencil I made from the Heart of Hearts die and Candied Apple Distress ink. The cute sporting couple are from the Better Together set.

I stamped the congrats greeting from Say It Big sentiments. I then die cut the whole panel with the large scalloped rectangle.
